CT State Northwestern Offers EMT Classes

WINSTED, CT – CT State Northwestern will offer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) classes Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., January 24 through May 19, 2025 in the Joyner Health Science Center, 100 South Main Street, Winsted.

EMT’s are trained to render immediate care for the sick and injured. The job is multifaceted and presents many challenges in a variety of emergency situations. EMT’s work both with ambulance services and in a hospital emergency room setting. This course is excellent for those considering careers in the fire, police, and security sectors, as well as for careers as a physician’s assistant.

Ten hours of clinical training and eight hours of practicum experiential learning are included as a mandatory part of the EMT program and are scheduled during non-classroom hours. Students also have the option to include seventeen hours of real-time ambulance calls as an observer to their training.

All students must be at least sixteen years old and have internet access. The cost of the program is $1,699 and immunizations are required for the clinical portion of the course.
