Student Spotlight: Myckenzye Davis '27

Myckenzye Davis '27

Nineteen-year-old Myckenzye Davis '27 has a schedule that most would find daunting: full-time student taking four classes; working both on and off campus a thirty-five, sometimes forty, hour week; as well as providing financial, emotional, and medical care to a close relative.

Davis, who is currently finishing up pre-nursing requirements, plans to apply to Northwestern’s nursing program in Fall 2024 with an expected graduation year of 2027. And after graduation? She has the unique goal of wanting to be a flight nurse. “When I was fifteen my stepfather passed away of a heart attack with complications, and the doctors said if he had been airlifted just fifteen minutes sooner, he would have lived.”

Her determination and dreams are what motivate and drive her to work so hard toward her goals and Northwestern is the vehicle to get her there, providing the academic support she wanted in a college campus.

“In high school, counselors told me that expecting the same level of support I received in high school just doesn’t fly in college. I wish more people knew how great Northwestern is – it does fly here!” she says.

"I love the homey, tight-knit atmosphere; seeing the same people every day and getting to know my professors and staff - and having a continued relationship with them in a supportive environment." - Myckenzye Davis '27

Davis is well on her way to achieving her dream of becoming a flight nurse, which requires not only a registered nursing license, but also certification in CPR, advanced cardiovascular life support, emergency nursing, and as a Certified Flight Registered Nurse. And for her, it all starts at Northwestern.

“I don’t know why a lot of people dismiss community college,” she said. “I am getting as good an education as anywhere. And I don’t have to pack up my life for six months. I can sleep in my own bed, see my family and boyfriend every day. And it’s free!”
