Student Spotlight: Nicholas Catalino Andujar

Current student, Nicholas Catalino Andujar, says he attends Northwestern for the affordability and the location. After hearing great things about the campus from his peers, the 21-year-old Winsted resident decided Northwestern was a good fit for his educational goal of becoming a nurse.

And he can walk to class if necessary, which is important due to his schedule.

Like most full-time Northwestern students, Catalino Andujar also works both on campus - in the campus food pantry - and off-campus as an intern at the American Mural Project in Winsted, and at Aldi grocers in Torrington; a total of almost 40 hours a week. For this student, Northwestern’s location so close to home allows him to succeed with a heavy workload and still be involved as a student.

“I love that everyone on the campus cares about your future and about you as a student” he says. “There is not a single staff member that I have come across that does not try to aid or help the students in any way they are able to. Everybody is friendly and open to having a quick conversation if needed.”

Catalino Andujar is currently taking prerequisites that will allow him to apply to the Northwestern nursing program. He hopes to graduate in 2027 or 2028 and then continue his education to obtain his bachelor’s degree, with the ultimate goal of becoming a flight nurse.

“I do not have to financially dig myself in a hole just to acquire an education; the resources the campus offers are abundant, and very helpful when utilized.”
